On a computer, place the pointer over a link without clicking. Many mail apps show the destination in a tooltip or at the bottom of the window. Compare the actual domain with the provider you know, not merely the visible text.
Hover without clicking
Pause the pointer over a text link, image or button. The label ‘View invoice’ can hide any destination. If the address is cut off, do not open it just to see the rest. Use the provider's known website. Hovering cannot reveal every later redirect or prove that the final page is safe.
Read the host, not the decoration
In https://account.example.ch/invoice, the host is account.example.ch. In https://example.ch.other.example/invoice, the host belongs to other.example. A brand name in the path after a slash does not change the host.
HTTPS and short links have limits
HTTPS encrypts a connection; scammers use it too. Shortened and tracking links can hide the final destination even when used by legitimate senders. Do not paste a private login or reset link into a public checker: it may contain an access token. When the domain is unclear, open the provider through an app or address you already trust.
The visible link is a label. The real destination and the reason for the message matter.
